Creativity. It seems like it comes out of nowhere. Something you’ve seen a thousand times can suddenly look anew. All it takes is a fresh perspective. Here at Mango, it’s super important to keep a feeling of inspiration and excitement when it comes to our work. One way we do this is by shooting creative sessions. We team up with some of the incredible vendors and venues in the wedding industry and produce awe-inspiring photos. It’s a great way to express ourselves and use our imagination. We leave the shoot feeling recharged, inspired and ready to rock our next wedding completely. Last August, Rainbow Chan came up with a plan for a creative editorial at the Estates of Sunnybrook to submit to the Wedluxe magazine. We knew this Estate of Sunnybrook wedding inspiration was going to be the bee’s knees – but when we heard it was going to be an Art Nouveau inspired shoot, we were all in!

Art Nouveau is a design movement from the turn of the 19th century and is a response to the academic art that was taking place during that time, as well as the industrial revolution. The style is indicative of flowing, organic forms and natural imagery such as plants and flowers. Architecture in this style is often curved with lots of continuous lines.

For this editorial, Rainbow sent us her mood board, and we could feel her vision! Inspired by old European films and fine art, the Estates of Sunnybrook fit the bill for her art nouveau dream. It has beautifully arched window sills, and a total old charm feels –  I could envision perfect backdrops for our shoot.

Rainbow created a ceremony scene starting with an incredible floral archway designed by Fuscia Designs. Add in an ornamental white gate supplied by GPS Décors and our art nouveau shoot was coming to life! I stood back to get a full perspective of the shot: our model was at the front, having a quiet moment, surrounded by gorgeous purple florals and the enormous green trees behind. It was stunning! I moved a little closer, playing with different angles, using the gate to create visual interest with the repetition of lines. We could all feel this Estate of Sunnybrook wedding inspiration was going to be something special!

Inside, table settings from Simply Beautiful Décor added to the art nouveau vibe; lots of organic lines and natural whimsy. There were SO many stunning pieces to photograph. The natural lighting of this room makes shooting in this space a MUST whenever I am lucky enough to shoot a wedding at the Estates of Sunnybrook. The airy light filtering in through the arched windows created such a soft, delicate feeling to our set-up.

My favourite part of our Art Nouveau shoot was the scene outside by the stone wall. This location had a feeling of old world charm, and it felt like we were transported to Europe! I have shot at the Estates of Sunnybrook quite a few times, but I had never photographed at this particular spot. It is incredible when space you are super comfortable with can feel entirely novel with a little bit of imagination and ignition of a creative spark! I wanted to keep the vibe playful and natural – I had the model laughing to create a mood that was full of ease and light. We used the same backdrop to photograph the cake: the curved archway of the window was a perfect art nouveau backdrop.

I am so proud of our Estates of Sunnybrook wedding inspiration session! I had such an amazing experience working with all the incredible vendors during this session and can’t wait to create something super special again in the future. Thank you so much!
