For those of us in the wedding game,
Megan Wappel Designs is a name synonymous with class, modernity and high style. So when it came to shooting Megan Wappel’s own wedding, I knew that it was going to be a next level treat for the eyes!

I often think about what I would want the photography to be at my own wedding, but to be your own wedding planner and designer takes a level of skill and artistry not many of us mere mortals are gifted with. But for Megan Wappel, she’s uniquely qualified and has all the tools in her arsenal to bring her perfect vision to life.

Megan Wappel has been running her own design and events firm, Megan Wappel Designs,  for over a decade. Renowned for her eye for detail and beauty, it’s no wonder that when it came time for her own wedding she knew exactly what she wanted! The whole wedding from the space and furniture, to the lighting, flowers and music was a perfect reflection of Megan and Kwasi and you could feel them and their love for each other woven into the energy of the room.

Walking into the Grand Symes, my jaw hit the floor in record speed. The space is awe-inspiring with high vaulted ceilings and not one, not two, but three skylights, causing beautiful natural light to spill into the room. Ask anyone and they will tell you I’m a sucker for some deconstructed architecture. The room with its brick walls, exposed wood beams and hanging lights is a modern brides dream! Looking around the room at the comfy purple velvet couches, the incredible flower arrangements hanging on the wall and the beautiful ceremony drape, it was a mix of lush and laid back that suited the couple to a T.

The gorgeous, statuesque blonde walked down the aisle in a custom gown by her friend Lindsey Johnson and adorned in jewels by Tara Fava Jewellery and when she reached Kwasi in his gorgeous cobalt blue suit at the end of the aisle, the whole room smiled and you couldn’t help but smile with them.

I’ve seen a lot of first dances in my time, but this was something else. The lighting of the room changes so that just the small bulbs on the modern rod chandeliers were glowing, dripping the room in a sort of ‘candlelight’ and large spotlights shone directly down on Megan and Kwasi. It was dramatic and romantic, like something out of a Hollywood movie. In a word: spectacular.

As the party got going, Megan changed into a gorgeous custom Kente brought to her all the way from Ghana and the couple danced the Azonto before everyone joined in!

For anyone, planning a wedding can be daunting, but to not only blend two people’s tastes together, but their cultures, families, traditions and still create something timeless and beautiful just speaks volumes to Megans talent as an artist and shows that Megan Wappel Designs can go down in the books as one of the most stylish wedding planning companies out there 😉

Megan and Kwasi, you are two of the most stylish, wonderful people we have worked with! Thank you for allowing us to be part of your special day!
